A Couple Visits a Shelter to Choose a Cat, But Instead, They are Chosen by a Blind Kitty

When Nathaniel and Elliot Green went to the Lynchburg Humane Society on “Free Cat Friday,” they were hoping to adopt a Siamese kitten.

They didn’t expect a pretty kitty that couldn’t see to choose them.

Meet Merlin!

Elliot says, “My coworker convinced me to go because she had just gotten a cute kitten from there. We were looking at their cat adoption site, and both Nathanial and I really wanted a Siamese kitten.”

“After my work shift ended, I discovered that all of them were either on hold or had already been adopted,” he added.

Merlin, a blind cat, had been waiting for adoption for a long time, but people didn’t want to adopt him, even though he was as beautiful as the other cats at the shelter.

The shelter employees explained that Merlin didn’t have any problems with his surroundings. He was very relaxed and loved to cuddle.

When the Greens brought Merlin home, he unfortunately faced several health issues, including regular seizures. This caused great worry to his new parents, who had no understanding of the underlying cause.

After investigating, they found out that Merlin was allergic to wheat. They changed his food to wheat-free, and luckily, Merlin has been perfectly healthy since then.

Merlin is a special-looking cat with features that make him stand out. He belongs to a rare mixed breed called Napoleon, which is a combination of a Munchkin and a Persian cat.

Napoleons exhibit a compact size but share comparable agility with regular-sized cats, primarily due to their inheritance of the physical characteristics of Persians.

The Greens are really happy they found Merlin. Elliot says he’s a friendly cat who loves attention and being held. He never breaks things or acts mean.

With no concept of fear due to his blindness, he fearlessly attempts to jump from high places. He’s also very sociable, eagerly running up to greet us at the door and climbing all over guests who are seated on the couch. His favorite spot is on someone’s lap.

Merlin and Elliot love to eat watermelon, which they consider their favorite food. It’s something they enjoy regularly.

Merlin has been living with the Greens for more than two years now, and they all really enjoy their life together.

They have gone the extra mile by setting up a dedicated Instagram page for him, and he has amassed a staggering 80,000 followers.
