Despite the fact that we reside in a fairly calm rural region, our cat Edmund passed away three years ago after being struck by a car. Shortly after, my wife Lisa and I decided to adopt a cat we had met at “Wrexham Cats Protection” who had been blinded as a result of cruelty.
Before coming to live with us, her eyes had to be removed because they were so severely injured after being abandoned on the streets of Wrexham. She was given the name Gertrude after a character from the television series Blackadder, and for a long time she was anxious because of her previous existence.

We would spend as much time as we could with her in the bedroom throughout the first year because she wouldn’t leave
We avoided moving things around and kept things as calm as we could for her so she wouldn’t be startled by loud noises
Although though she can roam around the home today, she still runs into objects now and again, especially when she is upset
She likes to relax by lying on us and rubbing her face on us
To keep her from being bored, we try offering her toys, but she often favors various kinds of activities
We take Gertrude, who adores being outside, on a leash so she may explore
She occasionally encounters other cats while out on walks, including her pal Melchett
She appears to like it when there is a lot of noise, like the neighbor’s dog barking and close people using power tools, which is surprising
Gertrude enjoys bug-hunting and taking in the noises of the garden
When she requests fuss, we attempt to reassure her that she is secure now, but it takes a while for us to succeed in making her feel at ease
I can only advise anyone with a cat experiencing similar issues to exercise plenty of patience
Gertrude may be quite demanding, but is surprisingly loving in return given how she has previously been handled by humans
Now that she is enjoying the finest life we can provide for her, we hope she is content living with us
