In the preceding month, two blind kittens were brought to a veterinary clinic due to their dire condition. Infested with fleas and afflicted with gastrointestinal problems, their rescue was urgently required. Best Friends Felines, a well-established cat rescue organization located in Brisbane, AU, was promptly contacted and readily welcomed the kittens into their care.

Nikki, a representative of Best Friends Felines, shared with Embora Cats that the clinic has diagnosed the colorpoint girl with microphthalmia, a congenital condition characterized by abnormally small and malformed eyeballs. Additionally, the ginger girl has been determined to have anophthalmia, a rare disorder resulting in the absence of eyeballs.
Right from the start, the sisters quickly won over volunteers with their irresistibly sweet temperament and flawless ability to skillfully navigate their new environment.

Their impeccable litter tray habits are a testament to their reliability. These cats consistently display a bright, happy, and playful disposition, they’re purring a constant expression of their delight upon hearing you.
Kerry, the foster mother, initially arranged an enclosure for the duo to systematically explore and familiarize themselves with the layout of the kitten room. Much to her surprise, they rapidly adapted to their surroundings, eventually gaining complete access to the entire room by the end of the day.
Two kittens, Pearl (colorpoint) and Miley (ginger), were given loving names – Miley always wears a constant smiley face.

Right from the start, they astounded me. According to Kerry, there’s no task beyond their capabilities. They demonstrate flawless performance in managing their litter and encounter no difficulties locating their food and water. They engage in play like typical kittens while embracing their adventurous side.
The kittens diligently explored every inch of the room, comprehending the layout and effortlessly locating objects with utmost precision.

When I left the room to run some errands, little did I expect that upon my return, I would find them both positioned on top of the cat tree, exuding undeniable contentment.
Unfazed by their complete blindness, Pearl and Miley navigate the world with unwavering fearlessness and an insatiable thirst for knowledge.

Kerry marveled at the blind babies, their joyful play and seamless navigation of the room masking their visual impairment. Their adorable faces never failed to make Kerry smile.
Kerry noticed something special happening between the two girls during their first week in foster care—a strong connection forming.

They consistently remain in close proximity, frequently maintaining physical contact. When one surpasses a certain distance, the other exhibits signs of concern. This fact was particularly apparent during our visit to the veterinarian.
The sisters arrived together in one carrier at the vet’s office. As Kerry examined Miley, Pearl desperately tried to break out and find her sister within two minutes. Miley was also worried about Pearl’s absence.

Right after I lifted Pearl out of the carrier and set her down beside Miley, they instantly calmed down and sat still for the examination. This confirmed what I had been thinking all week – these girls should stay together.
Throughout Kerry’s extensive 15-year experience as a foster parent, she has never encountered a bond as extraordinary as the one she is witnessing between these two kittens. Their reliance on each other far surpasses what sighted kittens are capable of. Therefore, it is certain that they will be kept together.

Having fully recovered from their health issues, they are now prepared to thoroughly investigate the remaining areas of the house.
We’ve started letting the kittens roam outside their room during the day. They’re not going too far yet, but they’re definitely curious.

The kittens exhibit an all-consuming obsession with their cardboard scratching toy and feather wands equipped with bells. Their remarkable accuracy in catching the wand toy consistently astounds their human companions.
