At the end of last year, Steve Hamel, a photographer, was working on his jeep in the garage, unaware that his day was about to turn into an exciting adventure.

While he was repairing the vehicle, he noticed a long-haired ginger cat with white mittens who had joined him, confidently hopping onto the jeep as if to offer her assistance.
He shared with Embora Cats that he was currently occupied with repairing his jeep and did not possess a cat or any other type of pet.

Steve was surprised by the sudden appearance of a cat, but he quickly became attached to the friendly feline. The cat persistently sought his attention and even climbed onto his shoulders for snuggles.
As Steve walked around the garage, the cat remained seated on his shoulders, enjoying the ride like a personal chauffeur.

After her tour, she jumped onto a crane and surveyed the jeep before giving it a thorough inspection. Eventually, the cat settled on a tool box, claiming it as her makeshift bed.
To his surprise, Steve stumbled upon a small but helpful assistant waiting for him in the garage.

Upon discovering a lost cat without a tag or microchip, the neighbors were contacted to see if anyone was missing a cat.
“If our attempt doesn’t go as planned, we will still have the opportunity to keep the very affectionate cat,” wrote Steve.

After Steve’s daughter named the cat Sally, the family immediately purchased all the necessary supplies for her, including food, litter box, bed, toys, and a new name tag.
Sally enjoys sitting on my shoulders. Despite her claws, my work jacket makes it comfortable.

After Steve posted the story about the garage cat on Facebook, it quickly gained traction and reached a wider audience. A few days later, the family who recognized the cat contacted them after crossing paths with Sally.

Steve updated, “We found the owners of the cat, who lived nearby. They were happy to be reunited with their pet and had heartwarming photos of their daughter playing with the cat.”
Although it was heart-breaking, reuniting them felt good, and we did the right thing.

After the cat saga touched their hearts, Steve proposed getting a cat to add to their family.
Steve wrote that he and his partner decided to adopt a cat to bring joy and love back into their lives.

Despite wanting a tabby, we fell in love with a sweet black cat. Black cats are often less adopted than others. We had a Sally tag, so she’s now Sally 2.0.
Sally 2.0 adjusted seamlessly to her new living arrangements and became a valued member of the family, which now includes multiple dogs and a dominant feline.

One day, Steve was visited by an unexpected feline friend who left paw prints on his heart, symbolizing their newfound friendship.
She led him to find a new family member that they never knew they were missing.
