About a month ago, a pregnant cat with a swollen belly was brought to Hamilton Animal Services after being discovered wandering the streets.

Salty Animal Rescue’s cofounder, Karly Saltarski, learned about the cat’s predicament and swiftly offered to take her in.

A dedicated volunteer assisted in transporting Sage to her foster home where she was welcomed with open arms.

Despite her initial stress, Sage quickly adapted to her new surroundings and began preparing for the arrival of her kittens.

Upon entering her new home, Sage took the time to explore every inch of her new surroundings, eagerly checking out each nook and cranny.

With soft beds, blankets, and plenty of food at her disposal, she settled in well and became very fond of her new foster family.

She approached each person for affection, showing her gratitude by rubbing against them and purring contentedly.

Karly couldn’t contain her excitement as she shared the news about the pregnant dog. At five years old and with several litters under her belt, this will be her last.

After the puppies are raised, the dog will be spayed and finally have the chance to live her best life.

Karly carefully and thoughtfully prepared a spacious birthing box, complete with cozy blankets, a heating pad, and fresh water for the expectant momma.

After about 10 days of waiting, Sage gave birth to six fluffy kittens, who Karly ensured were surrounded by warmth and comfort.

Sage devoted herself entirely to caring for her six demanding kittens – Saffron, Lavender, Nutmeg, Basil, Herb, and Dill.

She consumed eight small cans of food each day to keep up with the demands of her chunky babies.

Day and night, Sage catered to their every whim, making sure they were well taken care of.

Whenever Karly visited, Sage transformed into a purring, mushy creature, while her babies nestled close.

Delighted, Sage stretched her toes, enjoying the head scratches from her foster mom.

With Sage’s complete attention for two weeks, the kittens achieved multiple milestones, and they are now taking their first steps to explore their surroundings.

Mama Sage is keeping a watchful eye on her six roly-polies to keep them out of trouble. Among them, Basil and Nutmeg are competing to be the heaviest kitten.

While Dill is the most easy-going, Nutmeg is honing his wrestling skills and often pushes his siblings out of the way as he moves.

Herb is following in his brother’s paw-steps, while Lavender, the smallest one, is learning to walk with great bravery.

Meanwhile, Saffron is becoming quite the sassy princess. These lucky kittens have a foster home where they can thrive indoors and grow by leaps and bounds without ever having to spend a day outside in the cold.

With Sage one step closer to her forever home, there will be no more roaming the streets in search of food and shelter.
