Late last month, while in front of a daycare in northeast Philadelphia, Katy stumbled upon a stray cat. Being a volunteer for Stray Cat Relief, she felt compelled to check on the feline before leaving.

As Katy was working, she spotted a cat with a large belly walking down the street. Although she didn’t have a trap, carrier, or food, she noticed the cat needed help. The cat turned to her and approached her for affection when she crouched down and offered her hand.

Katy contacted Stray Cat Relief and a TNR rescuer for a pregnant cat. The dilute tortie was pleased with Katy’s attention, and although she wouldn’t let her be picked up, Katy kept her occupied for over an hour while waiting for help.

Priscilla, the rescued cat, devoured her food after being taken into foster care. She slept soundly in her warm bed that night, making up for lost rest. The next day, Katy noticed Priscilla was restless and howling, suggesting she was going into labor.

Late at night, Katy rushed to the rescue of Priscilla, a pregnant cat in need of help. She quickly built a cozy nesting box and stayed by her side, offering comfort until she had to reluctantly retire to bed.
But even in her dreams, Priscilla was on Katy’s mind, and she got up at 1:30 AM to check on her. To her amazement, she found that Priscilla had given birth to two adorable kittens. By early morning, there were six little ones nursing away and snuggled up to their loving mom.

At 7:30AM, the cat mother immediately flipped onto her back, showing her babies to Katy. Meanwhile, Katy was providing supplemental feedings for the smaller ones of the litter, and encouraging Priscilla to focus on her own needs.

Katy informed Embora Cats that she had been feeding the cat while she nursed because the cat seemed unwilling to take a break. After several days of constant care, Priscilla now takes brief breaks to stretch, replenish, and receive love from her foster mom.

Katy shared that Priscilla is a diligent caretaker for her kittens, closely monitoring their wellbeing even during weigh-ins. If she feels they’re taking too long, she’ll promptly bring them back to their bed.

Priscilla, who was once a stray cat, is now happy to be inside with her kittens, knowing they will never have to face the dangers of life on the streets.
