When two members of the public found a litter of four motherless kittens wandering the streets, they knew they had to act fast.
They brought the kittens to the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, where dedicated volunteers like Penny Richards provide top-notch care to animals in need.

Penny explained that the first night of feeding the young kittens was challenging. Due to their age, they were unable to consume solids and struggled with the bottle.
To address this, Penny created a milky slurry using wet food, which the kittens consumed enthusiastically. Penny noticed that they didn’t eat it correctly since it wasn’t meant to be their primary food source.
Penny’s determination to care for the kittens meant that she stayed up all night to feed them. With practice, the kittens became more comfortable with their new indoor surroundings and were soon devouring their food with enthusiasm.
The four kittens – Beck, Brook, River, and Bayou – were named after different bodies of water that held significance to their owners.
Bayou, with her fearless and sassy attitude, would demand milk during feeding times with all the vocal might she could muster.
Beck, the runt of the litter, needed extra help with eating, and her siblings would huddle around her, offering warmth and comfort as she grew stronger.
After exploring their surroundings, the kittens quickly climbed onto Penny’s lap for a nap. Eventually, all four kittens joined in on the snuggle fest and piled up together for some much-needed rest.
Penny can’t resist the affectionate nature of Bayou and Beck, who love to pile up on her lap and climb up her shoulder the moment she sits down with them.
Their friendship extends to other foster kittens, who are welcome to join in on their lap snuggles. While they love to play, they spend most of their time snuggling on Penny’s lap.
Beck’s face matches her precious soul. She meows nonstop until I pick her up, then starts purring loudly, Penny said.
River is the only male among three sisters. His underside is covered in wispy white hairs as if he’s aging.
Bayou is known for speaking her mind, and she’s also the loudest of the group. But despite her bold personality, she has a soft spot for a comfortable lap to sit on. In fact, both Bayou and Beck enjoy “splooting” on my legs when they’re resting.
Brook displays an affinity for wrestling with her siblings and displaying her cute belly. Penny describes her stunning coat, a diluted orange that results in a pale cream and grey coloration. Brook has taken on the role of supervisor, standing attentively on Penny’s lap.
After a tough beginning, the litter of four are thriving in foster care and ready to find a place of their very own, where they can get unlimited lap snuggles.
