Cute Kitten Wears Protective Sock Shirts and Runs Around Like a Champ

A little grey kitten found its way to Community Cat Club, a cat rescue organization located in southern New Jersey. Sara Sharp, the president and founder of Community Cat Club, informed Embora Cats that the kitten was discovered all alone on a military base before coming to their care.

Upon their arrival at the rescue, they promptly observed the presence of a chest deformity in Leroy, the charming kitten. However, this physical anomaly did not dampen Leroy’s delight in devouring his meals and basking in the affection lavished upon him by his dedicated caretaker.

“Leroy possesses evident flaws, and we are committed to providing him with all the assistance possible.”

Following a thorough examination using X-rays, our vet was able to conclusively diagnose the kitten with pectus excavatum, a congenital deformity affecting the chest wall.

Due to the severity of Leroy’s condition, it is necessary for him to undergo surgery to correct it.

In order to correct his chest shape, he diligently wore a cast that bore a striking resemblance to a kitty-sized corset for several days. On November 3rd, Leroy underwent life-saving surgery at Wissahickon Creek Vet Hospital, which proved to be a turning point.

“The surgical intervention was critically necessary due to the detrimental impact on his breathing and the displacement of his heart to one side, despite his weight being only one pound.”

This resilient young boy bravely faced a highly demanding surgery, defying expectations given his weight. Despite his small stature, he proved to be a force to be reckoned with.

Within seconds, Leroy swiftly stands on all fours, unfazed by the recent occurrence. This valiant cat maintains an unwavering determination to revel in the pursuit of amusement.

According to Sara’s account to Embora Cats, he now wears a chest plate for six weeks, aiding in his chest’s normal growth. Additionally, he visits the vet on a weekly basis for checkups, allowing necessary adjustments to be made as he continues to grow.

“He gets to wear his cute little sock shirts for this time to protect his chest plate.”

“The patient’s respiratory rates are excellent, and Dr. Yard, the veterinarian, specifically advised us to continue with the current course of action.”

Leroy brightens the lives of everyone he meets, whether they walk on two legs or four. He has formed a special bond with Poppy, another foster kitten, and their companionship is inseparable.

Sara told Embora Cats they’re obsessed with each other and will spend a lot of time together for six weeks.

“Leroy is an amazing little fellow; he is so sweet that you wouldn’t even realize anything is wrong with him. Ever since I brought him home, all he has wanted is love.”
