Last month, a concerned citizen found seven 6-week-old kittens under her duplex without their mother. The cat mother was nowhere in sight and did not return.
Due to their thin and hungry state, the finder took them in and contacted Coastal Bend Cat Rescue (CBCR) for assistance. Mary Huckabee, an officer with CBCR, spoke to Embora Cats about the situation.

Upon discovering seven malnourished kittens, including the runt of the litter named Fiddlesticks, a CBCR foster volunteer took action and welcomed them into her home.
While the finder continued to search for the mother, they received a call before needing to provide further care or bottle-feeding.

Three days after finding the kittens, the cat mother appeared, requiring assistance. The finder stayed up all night attempting to catch her and was determined to save her after noticing she wore a collar that was too tight.
A neighbor informed Mary from Embora Cats that the family down the street had discarded her to fend for herself.

After being picked up by volunteers, Maze, the momma cat, was quickly reunited with her kittens. As soon as she was released from the carrier, Maze hopped into the foster pen where her babies were waiting.
The kittens swarmed up to Maze, pawing at her and nuzzling into her belly, vying for her attention. Maze started grooming them one by one until she was succumbed by the clowder of seven.

Upon seeing their mother, the excited kittens climbed all over her until she lay down, and the demanding seven immediately lined up on her belly to nurse vigorously.
Fiddlesticks stayed with Mama Maze all morning, making up for lost time. As a result, her belly grew exponentially that day.

After being separated, Mama and her babies were reunited in a heartwarming moment. The smallest of the litter, who was previously unwell, nursed all morning and made a remarkable recovery. Witnessing this touching scene brought tears of joy to my eyes.

As per Mary from Embora Cats, the babies were charming from the beginning but have become even more so with their mother’s presence.
They are friendly, playful, and are deeply attached to one another, as demonstrated by their tendency to sleep in one big pile, even with multiple beds available.

Mary shared that the finder developed a deep attachment to Maze, a sweet tabby who arrived at a difficult time after the loss of her father.
The bond between them was immediate, and the finder plans to adopt Maze once she has finished raising her final litter of kittens.

Maze is an exceptional mother who provides for her litter of seven kittens with great care and attention.
She tolerates their playful antics and ensures their safety at all times. The feline family of eight is thriving, and Fiddlesticks is catching up in size with his siblings.

Maze and her kittens were rescued and are now safe indoors with a loving family who will provide them with a lifetime of care and devotion.
