Jillian, the founder of FosterBabyCats saved a tabby kitten named Merida when she was found in need on a farm in Ohio.

After sustaining a spinal injury, most likely from being stepped on by a large farm animal, the kitten lost the ability to move her wounded back legs. Jillian quickly took her to a local specialist and emergency vet hospital, where the medical professionals informed her that they were unable to save the kitten.
Despite it all, Jillian wanted to give the tabby a fighting chance.

Jillian was helped in her quest to care for Merida by Dr. Jackie Holdsworth, a surgeon and neonatal specialist. According to Jillian, Dr. Holdsworth reached out to offer guidance and sent a significant amount of supplies to assist in Merida’s care.
The tabby girl, named after Brave’s character, is resolute in navigating her life with happiness as a paraplegic cat.

Merida’s recovery transformed her into a force to be reckoned with. She began chasing cats who were bigger than her, determined to prove herself as the toughest kitty in town.
When she first decided to ‘cat,’ it was evident that she was a tenacious little fighter who refused to let her disability hold her back. Despite having only two fully functional legs, she still manages to get the zoomies and live life to the fullest.

After undergoing various treatments and therapy to enhance mobility, Merida’s energy levels surged when she received a set of wheels.
This cat’s playful demeanor was akin to a miniature tornado as she zoomed around with her fellow felines. Once she discovered the game of fetch, she became deeply enamored, exhibiting a professional level of proficiency in toy retrieval.

Jillian wrote that Merida can perform all her activities with the wheels on as she does without them. Rolling over, stretching, laying down, climbing, sneaking up on other cats, etc., are not hindered by the wheels.

Her life is full of new adventures every day, and I am here to assist her in living each one to the fullest.

Jillian, who owns a paraplegic cat, initially relied on vets to guide her in caring for her pet. However, as her cat approached its 9-month birthday, Jillian realized she had developed the skills and knowledge necessary to keep her feline companion comfortable and happy.
After consulting with several vets and specialists, Merida is now receiving electromagnetic and light therapy at home to manage her condition, along with nerve pain medication.

Merida’s confidence has blossomed, making her the happiest and bravest mischief-maker. Her humans are constantly amazed by her determination to do whatever she wants, as she is always plotting her next move.
Embora Cats interviewed Jillian, who shared how being at FosterBabyCats transformed her cat’s personality. Previously timid, the cat has become sassy and enjoys teasing other cats, even those bigger than her.

She loves spending time on her balcony sunbathing, chasing her siblings through the house, and playing with doorstops. She also has a custom mobility device that she uses to go extra fast and roll around.
Jillian celebrates every little win with Merida because she believes her personality is what helped her survive her first 2.5 months of life without intervention.

Jillian wrote that she’s proud of how far the paralyzed kitten has come, and she’s happy it feels safe now that she’s learned how to care for and help it thrive.
On a daily basis, she exemplifies resilience, courage, and determination, while acknowledging that it’s okay to seek assistance when necessary.
