A litter of kittens arrived at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington in Virginia one summer. The Kitten College program’s volunteers provided round-the-clock care for them.
Lauren Strycula, a foster volunteer, stepped in to help when two smaller litter mates needed extra attention.
The siblings leaned on each other for comfort while facing health challenges, with Jace taking a while to figure out bottle feeding and Jackie snuggling close to him.
Thanks to medication and diligent care, the twins started to improve in health and mood, gaining weight and seeking affection.
Jace’s adorable ear wiggles while eating made all the hard work and sleepless nights worthwhile. Jackie followed his brother’s lead, becoming more motivated than ever to eat and play, lifting each other’s spirits and continuing to make progress.
Within a short span of a few weeks, the pair of kittens made remarkable progress. They learned to walk, used the litter box, and shared meals together from a dish.
Despite their physical similarities, Jace has a mischievous nature, while Jackie exudes a more relaxed persona. When they’re together, their unique qualities complement each other, creating a dynamic partnership.
Lauren wanted a loving family for two kittens, Jace and Jackie. Alexandra and Bryan were searching for a new addition to their family and came across the Animal Welfare League of Arlington.
After seeing the kittens on Instagram, they reached out to the rescue and were a perfect match.
In her writing, Lauren fondly recalls the contagious joy for life that the kittens possessed. She also remarks on their immediate trust towards anyone they met, as well as their silly and infectious personalities.
Finally, Lauren notes the sweet love that the kittens had for each other. While her part in their story may be ending, Lauren is comforted by the fact that their happily ever after is just beginning.

Upon arriving in their new home, the kittens quickly settled in and eagerly explored every nook and cranny.
Alexandra shared with Embora Cats that they were full of energy and bouncing off the walls within a few hours.
At around midnight, my father played some specially-engineered cat music that was designed to soothe felines. To our surprise, the cats then climbed into bed with us and snuggled up close.
After spending their first night in their new home, the kittens, who have since been named Whiskey and Pippa, took turns cuddling with their new parents.
The following morning, Whiskey cozied up to Dad’s shoulder, nestled his face into Dad’s beard, and drifted off to sleep.
The brother and sister have a strong bond and are always together, as shared by Alexandra in her conversation with Embora Cats. They play nonstop and become upset if they lose sight of each other.
The two best friends are inseparable, sharing every moment of their day. They sleep, eat, and play together, and even use the litter box side by side.
They love their toys and enjoy scampering around the house, running at full speed, and jumping up and down the furniture. They rub off on each other, living their best twin life.
According to Alexandra, her cats enjoy spending their days lounging in a window hammock and watching people and birds. They also demand attention by tapping their human’s legs or arms.
Their love for each other is undeniably the sweetest thing. We were delighted to have kept them together and hope that their story inspires more people to adopt pets in pairs.
