When contemplating felines, our minds often conjure up images of adorable creatures, lavishly pampered and adored by their human families. This is likely due to our personal experiences with pets, or witnessing the love and care others provide for their furry friends.
Nevertheless, there are animals for whom this ideal existence is not a reality. In today’s world, there are numerous cats and dogs who are either born into or left to fend for themselves on the streets.
Despite the challenges, there are compassionate souls who step forward to care for these abandoned creatures. Their primary goal is to provide a better life for these animals, with the hope of full recovery and a loving home where they can reside for the rest of their days.
These selfless individuals offer a glimmer of hope to these furry friends, who might otherwise be forgotten and alone.
Nestled within the ranks of remarkable individuals lies a group of compassionate souls – the staff and foster volunteers of Best Friends Felines. Their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to rescuing cats and kittens from all corners of Brisbane and the coastal areas are nothing short of extraordinary.
A malnourished kitten named Lulu was found and taken to a vet for a second chance at life.

Lulu’s severe flea and hookworm infestations, severe malnourishment, and hair loss were a result of her puppies resorting to eating each other’s fur in a desperate attempt for sustenance.

Lulu was severely malnourished and had a low chance of survival due to organ damage caused by starvation, as well as flea and worm infestations.

As you gaze upon a picture of Lulu chowing down on her food, her emaciation becomes strikingly apparent. Every bone in her spine protrudes noticeably, highlighting her frailty. Despite her young age, Lulu weighed in at less than 300 grams, a mere half of what is considered healthy for a kitten.
When the veterinary nurse carried Lulu out of the carrier upon arriving at my home, my heart broke at the sight of her small, delicate frame. It was clear that her previous owners had failed to provide her with the necessary care, leading to her pitiful condition. However, despite her diminutive size, Lulu possessed a fierce determination to survive, exemplifying her unwavering spirit.
Lulu was a kitten with a condition that added to her already captivating personality. Her bold confidence and outgoing nature made her irresistible to everyone she met.

She boldly sought affection and attention through vocalization and physical closeness, displaying an unwavering love for all individuals she encountered, be they human, feline, or canine.

After implementing flea and worm control measures, Lulu’s health showed significant improvement.

As her appetite increased, so did the thickness of her coat. She was soon transferred to a new foster home, where she was greeted by Peach, a solitary kitten whose body was similarly frail and undernourished. Despite their disparate backgrounds, the two females quickly formed a strong bond.

As I witnessed the two infant creatures, left bereft by humans, approach each other in a touching display of camaraderie, my eyes were nearly filled with tears. Despite their shared youth and pitiful start to existence, they joyfully scampered towards each other and began playfully pummeling and wrestling, as if they had been separated for years.
Lulu received care for months and underwent vet work before being adopted.

Through her affectionate personality and charming behavior, she captured the heart of Reece, who became her owner and lovingly cared for her for the rest of her life.

After receiving exceptional care as a kitten, Lulu blossomed into a purring machine with increased energy levels and a vibrant personality. She craved love and attention from everyone, especially her new owner Reece, who provided a loving home after her successful rehabilitation.
Ciri, previously known as Lulu, is currently leading a healthy and prosperous life as an adult cat, having fully recovered from her challenging start.
