A cat came running up to us on March 13th, 2022, pleading for food while we stopped to cater to a dog. This cat was attempting to get into our automobiles as it frantically looked for any food.
I saw a second one pop out and then a third one emerge as soon as I reached in to take the cat food I always have on hand.
I learned that these cats had been dumped here five months prior when I started chatting with the neighbors. These cats were slowly starved to death while languishing in an empty dog house since no one could afford to feed them in this low-income neighborhood. The cats were rumored to be sticking about constantly, but nobody knew what to do with them.
When I started looking at the cats, I discovered that they were worm-infested and flea-ridden, and that they were bone-thin. , a little……………. We am in the Midwest, where outdoor animals can freeze to death, so this was a major issue. We fed them as much as we could, and after they finished, we realized they were so ravenous they were growling.

We were approached by three stray cats asking for food. I enticed them into the cat carrier in order to remove them off the streets and prevent them from starving to death.

When I initially saw the cats approach us, I started formulating a plan to trap, neuter, and return (TNR) them, but as I examined them, it became clear that these were not healthy cats that were prospering outside. Due to stress and malnutrition, they were all almost all on their deathbeds. in the same way… in the same way…………………………….

Before something snapped in my head and I knew something needed to be done IMMEDIATELY, I was still planned to catch them in the upcoming weeks. Today, these cats were starving. Today, these kitties were shivering and in pain.
These cats didn’t have many tomorrows, so waiting for a plan to come together wasn’t an option. My mind suddenly made sense of something, and I was certain that I was taking these kitties home with me NOW with every fiber of my being.
With some food and a few gentle prods, I coaxed them into the one cat carrier I owned. If you’re questioning whether I actually jammed adult cats into one cat carrier, read on. Sure, I did, sir! Then they all huddled up and made it home.
We brought the kitties home and conducted a routine intake. After handling them, I was certain that they were indoor cats that someone had dumped outside.

As we brought them inside and performed the usual intake procedures, including flea and worm treatments, weight checks, and physical examinations, I was certain they were indoor cats that had been dumped outside by a sick person.
After coming to this revelation, I was filled with a burning hate and hatred for whoever had the power to take these three lovely boys and dump them on the street. How on earth could someone do that? I started crying because I was determined to give these youngsters what they deserved—better.
James pleading for attention during intake

We gave the cats the names Sirius, James, and Lupin, three cunning Harry Potter characters.

We got to know them better over the following few days and gave them names based on the naughty marauders from Harry Potter: James, Lupin, and Sirius. These guys cherished cuddles and hugs. They adored playing with wand toys and cuddling up in their cat beds. It’s difficult to explain, but they suddenly appeared happier and more carefree.

My 3 goofballs needed a home, so I contacted the organization I foster for, and “Happy Feet Pet Rescue” accepted them into the rescue family.

When I was satisfied they were adoptable inside cats, I called out to the organization I foster for to see if they had place for the 3 goofballs I had grabbed off the street, and Happy Feet Pet Rescue welcomed them into the rescue family so we could get them properly vetted and ready for adoption.
I took to Reddit’s subreddit r/cats to air my irritation after seeing how far they had come, but I was still furious about the predicament someone had placed them in. My main point was: DO NOT THROW YOUR INDOOR CAT OUTSIDE. Outside, they can’t survive. They cannot venture outside unrestrained and unattended if they were born and nurtured inside. They’ll perish. Without assistance from humans, these cats would have perished. They are unable to hunt, and if they are not eaten first, they will starve to death. This is more terrible than putting a cat to sleep or euthanizing it. This is your worst possible course of action, and if you choose it, you are a worthless human being.
I chose to complain on Reddit because I was angry that someone had simply abandoned these kitties to perish. To my delight, the story did really find its way to someone.

Venting was therapeutic, and I was astounded by the support I got. So many people came out to share their own rescue stories, and so many voices echoed my same views. Moreover, I took great solace in reminding myself that these infants are secure. They won’t ever have to be concerned about where they will eat again.
And while I’m grateful that Reddit provided me with a community where hundreds of people could share my viewpoints, I’m most happy that the tale was able to touch only one individual.

I received an adoption request from someone who was willing to travel great distances to take these kitties into her house after posting the tale on Reddit.

I received several adoption-related queries after sharing this tale. I live in the Midwest of America, so some of them were as far away as Europe, but one of them was only four states away. Although it seemed far, they assured me that getting there was easy.
She told me that she had been hunting for cats and the ideal match when she read my tale and realized that these were the kitties she needed to bring home.
When “Happy Feet Pet Rescue” put them available for adoption, I provided the link to their probable adopter who had it filled out in record time

I corresponded with the marauders’ potential adopters, sending them updates and responding to their inquiries while they settled in and underwent our vetting procedure to be dewormed, vaccinated, and neutered.

James, Sirius, and Lupin made our lives full of joy and brightness while we waited for the application to be approved. While Lupin nestled himself in my lap while I worked from home, and Sirius thoroughly examined every hiding place to see which one was the best, James scrutinized every single thing in my office to see whether it was genuinely a toy. Every day I gave them hugs and expressed my happiness that they were safe.

I couldn’t believe someone four states away had found these kittens and had already shown them such affection. And I was thrilled that they were all able to remain together.

It was a couple of weeks before Happy Feet Pet Rescue authorized their adopter, and my heart jubilated with the news.
The couple flew into the airport in our state, rented a car, and arrived at 10 PM to adopt these adorable sons.

To meet their new parents, James, Sirius, and Lupin were giddy with anticipation. They immediately approached them to say hello, and they welcomed their new pets into their arms to give them a first-time hug. As the realization that these kitties have a home sank in, it was such a touching and lovely moment.
They went through the worst that man could muster. They were raised indoors with their family, only to be cast out in the dead of winter to live on the streets of a city. They struggled, they starved, and they were harmed.
Nonetheless, they now have a family. Because they didn’t want the flight to stress them out, their parents drove 11 hours to pick them up after a two-hour journey. They have already spent a fortune transforming their home into a feline paradise, and this loving couple will be cherished forever.

Because they didn’t want the flight to make the cats anxious, the family made the decision to drive the 11 hours back.

I’m so grateful that I came upon these kittens and had the opportunity to help. I’m grateful to Happy Feet Pet Rescue for accepting them into the rescue family, and I’m grateful to my husband for handling my phone call asking for help getting a crate ready when I told him I was bringing three more cats home. And I’m incredibly grateful to the marauders’ forever home for going through all of the trouble to make the most incredible and fateful adoption possible.

These sweet creatures have lived through the worst that humanity has to give, but they now have a loving family.

Nearly every day, the adopter and I text, and she gives me a ton of photos and videos (the pictures I get are of the cats cuddling with their new mom, cuddle puddling together, and of course causing mischief as they play with all of their new toys). The three fluffy creatures are flourishing and bringing happiness and love into their home.
