Photographer Josie discovered Lucian, a big orange cat, in poor condition on the side of a road at 7 am one morning. Upon approaching him, he waited for her at the edge of the forest. In a spontaneous moment, she named him Lucian Lionheart, and he has since become an important part of her life.
While others drove by, she stopped and caught him, which was amazing! Then she took him home.
Lucian’s appearance was far from that of a healthy cat. With matted fur and a gaunt frame, his ragged state was only fully exposed after his mats were shaved away, highlighting the importance of proper feline care.
Lucian’s eyes were a bloody, crusty mess, and his fur was patchy and matted in some areas. But the poor little guy was still so lovable, purring loudly and practically begging for food as Josie tended to him.

Lucian was brought to an animal rescue, where he received lots of care. Josie couldn’t stay with him, so he stayed with the rescuers.
“Let him come home to me. He deserves a life full of love, food, and comfort.” she wrote.
Josie regularly visited Lucian with the hope that he would recover from his ailment. During these visits, the affectionate cat would often rub his face against hers, a sign of his fondness for Josie. It wasn’t long before Ed, Josie’s husband, met Lucian and was equally enamored with the lovable feline.
Upon Lucian’s return home, his appearance was striking. The vet had to shave his matted fur, and he was running a fever and anemic. However, he displayed a positive signs by eating and drinking well, indicating a potential for recovery.
Lucian nearly died and spent two and a half months in the hospital. Vets discovered a potentially cancerous mass and suggested euthanasia. Josie wanted him to live happily, regardless of how much time he had left.
After all the suffering this poor creature has endured, they deserve to spend the remainder of their life in a home filled with love, delicious food, and a comfortable bed.” she wrote.
Lucian was able to receive the necessary medical care thanks to generous donations from supporters. After a successful treatment, he made a full recovery and now lives with Josie in a picturesque village in Germany.
After coming home, Lucian transformed into a beautiful and fluffy cat. Josie finally got the chance to cuddle him as she had been eagerly waiting for.
“He’s an incredibly cute and kind little munchkin that anyone would be lucky to have.” Josie said.
The cat found its forever home in the heart of the German Palatinate Forest and became an integral part of the family.
“The guy I found in the forest is the same person, but it’s unbelievable how much he has changed.” Josie said.
