Orange Kitten Hops a Fence to Join a Litter of Smaller Kittens and Decides to Help Raise Them

From the moment she moved into her new home in Arizona, Shelbi Uyehara, founder of Jin’s Bottle Babies, couldn’t help but notice the plethora of cats hanging around her property.

In order to learn more about the feline population in the neighborhood, Shelbi reached out to the homeowner and obtained valuable information. This led to the successful spaying and medical care of approximately 30-40 cats, including some pregnant cats in need.

While the couple worked on renovating their home, a cat started appearing outside their driveway and around their house. Upon investigation, they discovered that she had just given birth in the front yard of the caretaker’s residence.

“The night before we moved in, the mother cat gave birth to her kittens. It almost seemed as if she had been waiting for us to arrive.”

During a period when it was uncommon for a nursing mother to spend prolonged periods away from her newborns, Shelbi learned about an orange kitten named Red from a caretaker.

Red, a tabby boy who was born from a separate litter in the backyard, overheard the crying of some new kittens in the front yard and decided to join them. While in their presence, he would play with their tails by pouncing around.

The helpless kittens cried for their mother, but when she stopped feeding them, Red came to the rescue! With a heart full of love, Red provided the care and attention that these little fluff balls needed.

Since the day Red climbed the fence, he has been with the babies. When Shelbi adopted the litter, she made sure to take Red along with them.

We worked as fast as we could to get our house ready for Red and the four black kittens. Once it was adequate, we welcomed them inside. I couldn’t bear the thought of leaving Red outside without his companions.

Five cats arrived with crusty eyes and underweight, but after 24 hours, they were well-fed and groomed, resulting in a significant improvement in their appearance and health.

Red served as a mentor to the four younger kittens, Coral, Mamba, King, and Viper. He taught them how to play like cats and monitored them when they took their naps.

Red was very happy when he found a warm lap to cuddle on. He purred a lot and enjoyed being petted by his people.

Jen, a volunteer, took over the fostering duties for the group of five. While continuing their socialization, the friendly orange tabby welcomed her warmly with his signature cuddles.

Jen shared that a pet follows her around while she cleans and rubs against her legs. The pet seeks love and is cute with little babies.

Since the start of our campaign, a total of 36 feral cats, which includes the mother of the kittens, have been spayed and neutered.

Shelbi expressed that the house they bought feels like the right one, and they are now at home. She also mentioned that the cats in the house have been fixed, which is a relief for her as it ensures that no kittens will be born to suffer.

Shelbi proudly spoke of these five indoor kittens, with Red standing out as an exceptionally well-behaved teenage feline who earned the title of an angel boy.

This sweet cat loves lounging in the foster room and expresses gratitude through its kind demeanor and loud purrs.

Red is happy spending time with his little friends, even though they are much younger. It’s adorable to see them together.
