A feline with a rare brown coat has given birth to a litter of four kittens. These precious animals are thriving under the care of a compassionate family.
Laura Malone, director of Mini Cat Town in San Jose, California, was contacted last month regarding a family of five in need of rescue – a cat mom and her four kittens had been brought to the city shelter.
Though not much is known about their origins, Laura believes the mother was cared for by a human due to her weight and friendliness, but also suspects she spent time outdoors due to her dry paw pads.
Without hesitation, Mini Cat Town took in the family and discovered that all four kittens had stunning brown fur.
Laura shared that they have four girls, two with solid patterns and two with white socks and markings on their face and chest.
The noses and toe beans have a pinkish brown color, which suggests that they may not darken to black like their mother. However, if that is the case, they will be exceptionally unique.
Chocolate or cinnamon brown cats are a rare genetic mutation of the black color gene, making them challenging to find, particularly in rescue shelters.
Our cat mom, Mars, is a black-coated feline who quickly adapted to her new surroundings after ensuring the safety of her kittens.
Laura recounted to Embora Cats that during the first night, her cat growled and stood defensively, making unwavering eye contact at every noise and movement.
After spending some time with the cat, Laura realized that the cat was scared and protective of her kittens, but also craved human interaction and affection.
With time, Momma Mars warmed up to her foster family and trusted them to help with her demanding babies, such as Hershey, Reese’s or Reese, Twix, and Baby Ruth.
While standing and greeting her people, she started kneading and making biscuits, which was simply adorable – she looked like she was prancing!
Thanks to Momma Mars’ unconditional love and undivided attention, the kittens are healthy, happy, and chonky. They are becoming more playful and adventurous each day as they figure out their legs.
Out of the kittens, Hershey has a round head, Baby Ruth has almond-shaped eyes and a narrower face, Twix sports a white chin, while Reese is the most outgoing one, often the first to explore the outside world.
Laura wanted Mars to become familiar with her voice, so she formed a habit of greeting her with “hello Mama” whenever she opened the door. As a result, Mars has grown into an affectionate and personable companion.
As soon as I enter the room, her head pops up out of the carrier. She comes running out to greet me and follows me around while I prepare her food, rubbing my legs affectionately. It’s heartwarming to see the bond we share.
As the kittens enter their teenage phase, they continue to thrive in foster care. Their chocolate brown coat remains beautiful and they are growing bigger, stronger, and more rambunctious.
The feline sisters are now spending more time playing and wrestling with each other outside their nest. Their mother, Mama Mars, is always nearby, watching over them every step of the way.
Whenever a baby cries, the caring mother rushes to comfort them and shows love by grooming their face.
