One rainy night about a month ago, while Kay was at her office, she heard what sounded like a cat meowing outside her door. She walked towards the cries and found a tabby meowing desperately, begging to be let inside.
In the rainy and cold weather, she quickly called on her roommate, Lauren Keim, to help bring him in for the night. According to Lauren, they knew they had to do something to help him.
“Alongside our other roommates, we picked Kay up from work and transported him to our residence. Upon arrival, we proceeded to give him a bath before gathering on the floor to watch as he explored the new room we had prepared for him.”
The cat’s physical state was concerning – his body was thin, fur unkempt, and he seemed dehydrated. However, once a bowl of food was offered, the cat ate with great enthusiasm and finished within a minute.
As they were discussing finding a rescue, the sweet tabby curled up in Lauren’s lap and dozed off, burying his face in the blanket.
Lauren told Embora Cats, “He fell asleep in my lap, and I knew he was mine. It felt like he chose me.”
They decided to name him Chuck after the CEO of the company where he was founded.
Chuck, a 1-3 years old cat, was taken to the vet where they discovered he had an abscess on his front leg, which was likely caused by a bite wound infection. Further examination revealed a broken back leg that required amputation.
The vet concluded that the cat had been living with a broken leg for an extended period. Surgery was the only solution to improve its quality of life. Throughout all the visits, Chuck was a champ and expressed gratitude for the help received.

Lauren informed Embora Cats that the cat is adjusting well to life with three legs and is now moving faster than he was before the surgery.
Chuck’s true personality is emerging as he heals.
Chuck the tabby has become quite the cuddle bug, seeking constant attention and affection. He loves to lie down close to his human companion, snuggling up as close as possible for maximum cuddles and pets.
“Chuck’s calm and collected demeanor belie the challenges he’s faced,” Lauren said. “His favorite activities include lounging, snuggling, and mealtime.”
He now shows more affection by cuddling, indicating his trust and reciprocating love towards me.
Ever since Chuck found her, Lauren’s daily routine has changed. Each morning, she’s awoken by the sound of the kitty alarm that Chuck has set for her, reminding her that it’s time to feed him. And at bedtime, she gets to enjoy some quality snuggle time with her furry feline friend as he nestles on her neck and purrs contentedly.
Lauren told Embora Cats, “The cat she cares for is silly, but she believes his main motivation is to feel safe and loved. Lauren feels glad that she is able to provide these things for him.”
“Although I’m unsure of why he chose me, I love being his human.”
