Two litters of kittens were found without their mothers in a cat colony, and were subsequently brought to a local shelter.
Jess Thoren, a foster volunteer based in New Jersey, kindly offered to take all eight kittens into her home.
Embora Cats interviewed Jess, who shared the story of how she got Kelly, the tiniest tabby, when she was only one week old.
Jess noticed that Kelly weighed only 84 grams and was weaker than the other kittens. Due to Kelly’s weakness, she needed to be tube-fed every two hours.
Jess discovered two small wounds on Kelly’s little body and immediately started treatment. Despite the odds, the tiny fighter managed to recover and started to perk up.
With help from her foster mom, the warrior kitty was determined to grow bigger and stronger. Long naps helped her heal while Kelly’s ginger brother Zack kept her company and even offered himself as her pillow after every feeding.
Finally, after 10 days of round-the-clock care and sleepless nights, the tabby girl reached 150 grams, the size of a one-week-old. Although her siblings were at least 100 grams bigger than her, Jess was proud of her little accomplishment.
Kelly, the little kitten, continues to impress her foster family with her incredible resilience. She has been growing more active each day, and her appetite has also been improving.
Once she was strong enough, she quickly learned how to drink from her bottle, even though she was much smaller than her siblings. Despite her size, she has been trying to match up to her bigger siblings in everything.
After receiving proper care, the tabby’s health improved significantly, and she maintained a healthy appetite, proudly displaying her round belly after every meal.
Although Kelly’s coordination took longer to develop, she remained undeterred and always desired to join in with her siblings.
