When Roku the kitten was found outside without a mom, the odds were stacked against him. His siblings were discovered by a TNR rescuer, but he was the only one who survived.
Embora Cats reported that Shelby Thorpe, the founder of Shelby’s Kitten SafeHouse in Oregon, came to the rescue after learning about his dire condition. He was emaciated, suffering from eye infections and infested with fleas.
His name was bestowed upon him due to his size, which was only slightly larger than the Roku remote.
The tabby, estimated to be four weeks old based on dental and developmental observations, was surprisingly the size of a two-week-old kitten. However, this did not hinder his remarkable display of resilience.
Shelby, in her conversation with Embora Cats, expressed her confidence in her cat’s improved condition based on his voracious appetite. During the initial days, he displayed loud meowing, which could only be pacified when Shelby stayed by his side or carried him around.
Roku’s attachment to his foster mom was unwavering. He couldn’t bear her absence and would express his distress through loud cries and screams. Despite a challenging beginning, Shelby willingly became his steadfast companion, bringing solace to his little heart.
The sweet kitten snuggled up to its human when ready for a nap. Shelby set up a cozy cave bed with blankets for the kitten to knead on. The clingy kitty quickly discovered climbing and would make its way to the top of the bed, vying for Shelby’s attention.
In just one week, Roku transformed into a new kitten. His eyes cleared, and he was more relaxed. He enjoyed having plush toys in his crib and soft things at his disposal. But nothing made him happier than sitting on a warm lap.
Once he was healthy and ready to mingle, Shelby introduced him to a few other fosters, knowing how much he could benefit from having another kitten to play with.
Shelby revealed to Embora Cats that this little guy has become incredibly affectionate. When you pet him, he enthusiastically throws his whole body into your hand, often causing him to fall over.
“He adores rubbing his face on people, getting back scratches, and playing with his new kittens.”
Roku, the people-cat, adores empty laps and offers boundless affection despite being the smallest in the house.
With his sweetest gaze, the little lovebug continues to enchant everyone he meets, filling the room with adorable rumbling purrs.
