“I couldn’t believe my eyes. She was alive, and the amazement washed over me.”
During her commute to work, Kristyn Gamblain became aware of a momentary sighting—a fuzzy black ball located at the base of a highway barrier. As she continued on her journey, an inescapable thought emerged: Did she just witness a kitten in distress?
Despite lacking evidence, Gamblain couldn’t ignore her gut feeling that a helpless kitten needed her assistance. In response, she promptly turned around, determined to locate the potential feline. Uncertain of the precise sighting, she adjusted her speed, much to the annoyance of the vehicles trailing behind her. After some time, her eyes caught sight of the familiar black ball of fur, compelling her to carefully pull over on the side of the highway.
Gamblain’s suspicions are swiftly confirmed as she discovers the trapped black ball to be a helpless kitten.
Remarkably, the kitten had managed to become wedged in the narrow gap between two barriers. While her front half remained immobile, her lower half squirmed vigorously, catching the attention of Gamblain, who happened to be driving past.
Gamblain told Embora Cats that he was initially in disbelief but quickly became amazed when he discovered she was alive.
While Gamblain pondered the safest way to free the kitten, Officer Bennet, a highway patrol, witnessed the situation and rushed to provide assistance. Within minutes, additional police cars arrived, effectively cordoning off the area and redirecting traffic. This coordinated effort was aimed at ensuring the secure rescue of the tiny kitten.
Gamblain was ecstatic to find an entire team willing to assist her in freeing the trapped kitten. Despite the cat’s tight position, they skillfully maneuvered until they successfully and gently pulled her free. The crowd erupted in cheers and celebration, leaving Gamblain grateful for trusting her instincts and returning to lend a hand.
Once freed, the cat let out a small meow and immediately sought refuge in my arms. It seemed like she was a bit stunned but definitely happy to be saved, according to Gamblain.
When asked by an officer if she intended to keep the kitten, Gamblain didn’t hesitate to say yes, despite having adopted another cat just the week before.
“I couldn’t resist it after spending 45 minutes saving her,” Gamblain wrote in a Facebook post.
Choosing the name Jersey, Gamblain welcomed the kitten into her home with open arms. Settling in effortlessly, Jersey brought immense joy to Gamblain’s life, who hadn’t anticipated adopting another cat. The moment Gamblain laid eyes on Jersey, she knew deep down that it was a perfect match.
